Acts 17:23 - For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.
The Mars Hill Lunch and Lecture Series at the Rice Christian Study Center invites students, faculty, and friends into the kind of conversation Paul modeled on the Areopagus, thoughtfully engaging the “altars” and ideas of today’s university while proclaiming the known God revealed in Jesus Christ. Over a shared meal, speakers from across disciplines—scientists, artists, pastors, and public leaders—help the Rice community connect Christian faith and academic life. Like Paul in Acts 17, Mars Hill gatherings seek to understand, not merely to critique the culture of the campus, build bridges with its deepest questions, and invite hearers into a way of thinking Christianly and living faithfully in every sphere of study, vocation, and public life.
